TE KAUWHATA
MEETING OF FRUITGROWERS A meeting of fruit growers was held at Te Kauwhata school on October Ist to discuss matters relative to their industry. Mr Haxton presided over a moderate attendanoe It was decided to form a society known as the Te Kauwhata Fruit Growers' Association, and that a meeting should be held to-morrow to consider and adopt a system of rules for future guidance. After an interesting discussion i t was proposed and carried that hearty support be given to the Auckland Provincial Fruit growers Co-op. Assn., and that Mr Haxton be appointed as delegate to the forthcoming meeting of that society. Members present signed applications for shares in the last named Association, which is being formed with the object of placing the fruit growing industry on a better business footing to the mutual advantage of both producer and consumer. As Te Kauwhata bids fair to become the most important fruit growing district in the Waikato it is imperative that growers should unite in the present widespread enthusiasm of co-operative industry and seeiug that the Government has 1000 acres in the process of being converted into commercial orchards in this locality, as well as other orchaids being established by private individuals, there should be ample scope for the formation ot a lot-al society with rules adapted to its needs.
