MAUKU
FUNERAL OF PTE F. H. GILLON The funeral of Pte F. H. Gillon, whose death was recorded in our last issue, took place at the Pukekohe cemetery on Tuesday afternoon last The body was brought by train from Featherston camp to Pukekohe, and the cortege starting at 2 p.m. from Buckland's Horse Bazaar on the western side of the railway was headed by a firing party, comprised of members of the 3rd Auckland Mounted Rifles, Lieut. Hatt being io command. Then followed the hearse, the coffin being covered by a Union Jack. Following was a company of Senior Cadets, then relatives of the deceased, members of the general public on foot, in motor cars and other vehicles,land then horsemen On arrival at the cemetery the coffin was carried by six military bearers and the funeral rites were conducted at the graveside hy the Rev J. F. Martin, Methodist Minister. The firing party fired the usual three volleys over the grave A large number of beautiful wreaths and crosses were placed on the grave by relatives and friends.
