CLEVEDON.

DRAINAGE BOARD SCHEME A further meeting of delegates in > connection with the proposal to form a Drainage Board for the Wairoa and Papakura Road Board district* was held at Papakura on Tuesday last, when there were present Messrs J. Luke, A. Bell, J. McConoughy (representing the Wairoa Boad Board), Messrs E. D. McLennan, D. A. Reid, J. Emhling (Papakura Road Bord), and Messrs H Henderson, 11. Hansen (settlers), with the Acting-clerk (Mr 0. E. Bailey). Mr Luke presided. In accordance with the resolution passed at the last meeting the subcommittee submitted a plan of the proposedareaextendingfrom Thorp's creek, Clevedon, to the Papakura stream and its tributaries. After some informal discussion, on the motion of the Chairman, the report was adopted and it was decided that the various owners within the proposed drainage area should be approached with a view to securing their support to the scheme. Mr Hansch expressed the opinion that although a property owner might derive no immediate beneßt it would be to his advantage to support the Drainage Board. Continuing, Mr Hansch said a Drainage Board was no new thing and, of course, there would be complaints. People even complained because roads were being improved (laughter). Mr Emhling enquired if those interested would have power to compel owners to clear the creeks of willows. Mr Bell, replying, said that there was a good deal of conflicting opinion as to win was responsible for the clearing of creeks, but it was to the interests of all to keep the creeks as free from willows as possible as it assisted in the drainage of the district Mr McLennan reminded the meeting that in all these matters "the greatest good for the greatest number" should be considered. The advisability of consulting Mr D. W. McArthur as to obtaining his professional advice on the formation of the drainage area and on other matters was sugge&ted by Mr McLennan, and on the motion of Mr Hansch, Mr McLennan was authorised to interview Mr McArthur on the subject. On the motion of Mr Hansch the following were appointed to canvass their respective districts for support to the scheme:—Messrs D McGinnes, D. A. Reid, H. Muir, and J. Embling (representing the Papakura Road Board), and Messrs H. Henderson, J. Shaw, H. Bull, and C. A. Fawcett (representing the Wairoa district). So that as much support should be obtained it was agreed that Mr W. J. Hyde (Papakura district) should be approached to join in the scheme. It was decided that the chairman should convene the next meeting in about six weeks' time.
