BUCKLAND.
SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE LOCAL BRANCH FORMED A large and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Buckland Public , Hall on Saturday afternoon last, to consider tho advisability of forming a branch of the Second Division League. Mr A. J. Melville presided and referred to the objects of the League and the necessity of forming branches throughout the country. In introducing the first speaker, Mrs H. H. D. Wily (President of the Buckland Womens' Patriotic League) the Chaiiman pointed out howmuch the objects of the Second Division League affected the women of the country, and how appropriate it was that tho Women's Patriotic League should take part in that meeting. Mrs Wily expressed her pleasure in being requested to take a part in the proceedings and tombed on many points which were of special importance from the women's standpoint. She promised that the League she represented would do all in their power to forward tho aims and objects of the Second Division League. Mr A. A. Creamer the Provincial Organiser for the Second Division League) then delivered an eloquent address, which was listened to with rapt attention He explained fully the aims and objects of the League, and referred to the resolutions carried at the late Wellington Conference. He pointed out that in their proposed pensions scheme and other demands on the Government the League was working both in the interests of Ist Division men as well as the 2nd Division men. At the close of Mr Creamer's address the following resolutions were adopted by the meeting, viz : "That this meeting, while affirming the determination of carrying on the war to a successful conclusion, requests the Government to apply the principle of equality of sacrifice to the whole community." (2) "That this meeting of the residents of Buckland thanks Mr Creamer for his address and affirms the desirability of forming a League, to be called The Buckland Second Division League.' The annual subscription to be gents 2s 6d, ladies Is and that all Bntish subjects over 21 years of age should be eligible for membership." The following officers were then elected :—President, Mr A.J.Melville ; vice-Presidents, Messrs A. Gummer, E. Allan and E. Piggott; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr 0. G. Avery; Committee (with power to add to their number), Messrs A. Hewitt, A. P. Home, J. K. Hamilton, S. Civil, H. H. D. Wily, Greenway, Peters, E. Pooke, C. Porter, E. Neal About thirty members were enrolled. Mrs Wily intimated that tho ladies would consider at their next meeting whether they should form a women's branch of the Second Division League or give all the help they could under their Patriotic League. The Chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Wily and Mr Creamer for their able addresses and this was carried by acclamation. A vote of thanks concluded the meoting. It is hoped that now Buckland has made a start in this movement the surrounding districts will follow suit.
