FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
Road Loans At last Thursday's meeting of the Franklin County Council the Clerk reported the position with regard to the various loans the Council were raising as follows: Hunua Loan £lsoo.—The consent of the Governor General to the borrowing of- this loan had been granted and the State Advances office had written asking for further information as to the estimated cost of the works proposed to be carried out. This information had been forwarded but no reply had so far been received as to whether the office could entertain the loan or not
Waiau-Karaka Loan, £27,000. Application for the consent of the Governor General to thebotrowing of this loan had been lodged and a request had been made to the Public Trust office for the money but no reply was yet to hand. (It may be stated that since Thursday a reply has been received that the Public Trnst Office will not be able to find the money and efforts to raise the,amount in some otherquarter will be necessary). Mangatangi-New Brighton Loan, £sooo.—Application had been made to the Public Trustee for this loan and a reply had been received that the Public Trust Office was prepared to grant a loan of £SOOO at 5| per cent interest plus one per cent sinking fund for a term of 36£ years, subject to the sufficiency and legality of the security and the money being uplifted on such data; or dates as the Public Trustee would approve.—lt was decided to reply and accept the loan subject to the ratepayers consent to the raising'of the same being obtained. The matter was left to Crs Lockwpod, Lyons and the Clerk to take sucH steps as were necessary. Karaka Bridges Loan, £375. Advice had been received that the State Advances Office would entertain this loan and the necessary steps were being taken to complete it. Park Road, Papakura, Loan, £450 —The State Advances Office advised that it was prepared to entertain this loan and the ratepayers' consent to the raising of it had already been received.
Maioro Top Road Loan, £350. The State Advances Office advised that it was prepared to entertain this loan and the necessary steps for raising it were in hand. Tuhimata proposed loan. The Special Rating 801 l for this loan was not yet available, but steps were being taken with a view to ascertain* ing whether the loan could be entertained.
