MANGERE ROAD BOARD A meeting of the Mangere Road Board was held in the Public Hall, Mangere, on Monday evening, September 3rd, the members present being: Messrs M. B. Kirkbride (chairman), S. W. House, C. E. Goosman, W. W. Massey, James Montgomerie, and the Clerk (Mr E. Ashcroft). Messrs Davidson and Hull attended the meeting in regard to hotres served upon owners of sections on the Wallace Estate to clear out their respective portions of the water course running through the estate. They stated that owing to the exceptionally wet weather it was impossible to comply with the Board's demand in the time given, viz: 14 days.—lt was resolved that the time be extended for a period of three months.
Mr J. Markwick wrote complaining of storm water from Rosella road Hooding his property and it was reported that the Board were already giving the matter attention. A complaint that cattle were damaging his fences was received from Mr I). A. Allison, Portage road, Papatoetoe. As the Board issued licenses for cattle to graze on the reserves and roads it was resolved that Mr Allison should be informed that the Board had no power to prevent the animals from grazing on the road in question and therefore no action could be taken in the matter. Mr G. A. Powdreli wrote stating that he accepted the Board's terms re leading the reserve near the bridge and that he intended to take occupation as from Ist September.
Tho terms required by Mrs E. Miller before she Avould allow the Board to utilise the old stone walls on her property for crushing purposes were considered to be too stringent, consequently the offer was not accepted. Mr I). Ford wrote giving notice that he wished to terminate his position as ranger to the Board at the end of the month.— The resignation was accepted and the Clerk was instructed to call for applications to fill the vacancy of ranger and dog registrar. The salary of ranger was fixed at £4O per annum. A communication was received from Mr F. E. Powell, C.E., re proposed water supply at the bridge end of the district.—lt was rosolvedthat a meeting of the ratepayers and residents concerned be called for tomorrow (Wednesday) evening, at the bridge school, in order to place full particulars before them and to sret their instructions as to the carrying on of the scheme. The Clerk reported that the Government subsidy on the rates collected for the year 1916 1917 had been paid into the Board's account at the bank. The sum amounted to £224 10s 6d.
The Board's solicitor (Mr A. E Skolton) wrote stating he was taking all possible steps to expedite the payment of £3GO promised by the Onehunga Borough Council towards the construction of the approaches to the Mangere bridge. The foreman submitted his report on works carried out in the district during the mouth. A matter was mentioned therein with reference to tenders that had been called for road construction work through Mr Harding's property and the Clark was instructed to interview tho surveyors (Messrs Harrison and Grierson) with regard to the quality of the metal to he used thereon. Accounts amounting to £7O os Od Were passed for payment.
