MANUREWA
RED CROSS TEA With their customary patriotic zeal tho residents of Manurewa gave ready support to the Red Cross Tea given in the Public. Hall last Thursday afternoon by Mrs Muir, the President of the local branch of tho Victoria League, and despite the stormy weather the attendance, including visitors from Auckland, Piipatoetoe and Otahuhu, numbered about 1 •">'). Among tiie visitors present were Misses J. A. Mowbray, and Miss A. Holland (Hon Treas. and Hon. Sec. respectively of tho Auckland Victoria League) and a delegate from the South African Victoria League. Mrs Hudson Williamson, .1 very highly respected worker for Red Cross purposes, gave a very eloquent address on the work of tho Victoria League throughout the Empire and commended the activities of the Manurewa branch, whose efforts were surpassed by few, if any, branches in the Auckland Province. Tea was then served by several young ladies of the Papatoetoe and Manurowa districts, who weie very attractively dressed in white and were exceedingly attentive to all. An excellent musical programme was provided including the following items, viz, Pianoforte solo by Miss Watson, songs by Mrs Mc-Cullough and Miss Daisley, and recitations by Miss Holland and Mr O'Hara, all being well received. Tho management was in tho capable hands of the Rev W. C Wood, who also olllciated as an auctioneer for the sale of llowers and cakes Mrs Muir is to be congratulated upon having promoted such a successful a ft'"."noon and she desires to thank all who kindly lent assistance The total takings reached the creditable sum i 7.
