TUAKAU.
A meeting of the Presbyterian Women's Mission Union was held in the Church last Tuesday afternoon. Mr Butterworth presided. In view of the many demands made in connection with the war it was decided to defer taking any active part in the Mission work until after the war.
It is interesting to learn that the Town Board have now received £'2ooo, part of the £12,000 loan as authorised. This should enable the Board to carry out some improvements in the town and district. Perhaps a kerbed and channelled footpath will be provided in Liverpool •treet. Wednesday next is the last day for receiving nominations for the vacancy on the Town Board created by the resignation of Mr W. G. Graham. A Bed Cross Tea was held in the Public Hall last Wednesday, Mrs Hunter presiding over a good attendance. An excellent address on Red Cross work was delivered by Mrs Hudson Williamson, of the Auckland Executive, and musical items were contributed by the Misses L. McGahan, Foulkes, and Herrick, and Mr H. Ontred. Mrs Hunter gave a report of the doings of the the local branch of the Women's Patriotic League. A dainty afternoon tea was served and a collection realising £3 "s was taken up.
