BOMBAY.

A smoke concert to bid farewell to Ptes G. Cooper and S. Partridge, who were on final leave was given in the Bombay Hall on Friday last. Ftfe ; Barker, of Ararimu, who was also on final leave was present. Mr VV. Thomas who presided took the op- ' portunity of presenting each of their two guests with a pipe each, and in doing so j wished them on behalf of their J many Bombay friends good lu<:k and. a safe return. He felt sure that : they would do honour to the British flag. During the evening songs i were sung by Messrs Blake, Cooper, | Barker, jnr. and senr. and Mr E. J. j Fahey gave a recitation, all « hich J items were much appreciated. Mr Baiker, senr., acted as accompanist. Altogether a most enjoyable evening was spent. Mr A. Best, a highly respected { settler of this district, who has been ! unwell for some weeks, has now re- I covered from his indisposition. Bombay not only possesses a well built school, but the children through ! the energies of their schoolmaster ! [Mr Corbett) have caught the true j patriotic spirit. Last year they con- I tributed no less than £l4 for patrio- j tic purposes by growing plauts in their gardens and disposing of them This year also they have set apart' the greater part of their garden for the same purpose and it is confide nth anticipated the result will be oq a'!-

On the occasion of her recent marriage Miss Maggie Wootten (daughter of the late Mr Thomas Wootten) was presented with a silver tea pot by the choir and church members of the Methodist Church as a token of esteem in which she was held. Mr S. Allison made the presentation and in doing so wished the recipient eyery future happiness Miss Wootten briefly returned thanks for the gift.
