RAMA RAMA
ROLL OF HONOUR Much sympathy is felt throughout the district with the parents and families of Sergt. G, McCabe and Lance-Corpl. G. Stephenson who have been reported killed in action. Sergeant Geo. McCabe was reported missing in the raid on February 21st, and this is the official notice of his death. Just before the raid he was Bayonet Instructor in France. He left with the 10th Reinforcements, prior to which he was in the Training College, having received his education and winning a scholarship from the Rama Rama school. He entered the Grammar school and from there commenced his career as a teacher. Lance-Corpl. G. St9phenson, who left with the Main Body and was all through the Gallipoli campaign, had been wounded twice or three times before making the supreme sacrifice. He received his education at the Kama Rama school and had been teaching for some years before going on active service. In writing home before going into battle at Messines he saps: "I am trusting in God and hope to do my duty as a soldier." Feeling reference was made at the Presbyterian service by Mr Irvine, H.M., to both gallant lads who had so nobly laid down their lives for their country.
A very pleasant afternoon was recently tendered to Miss A. Pulman by the Rama Bama-Tuhimata Guild members, when a very handsome silver teapot, suitably inscribed, was presented to her on the occasion of her marriage. Mrs Sharp explained the object of the gathering, eulogising the services Miss Pulman had rendered to the Guild and hoping that she would still continue to do the same work as she was not leaving the district. Mrs Langford (President) then made the presentation and expressed the wish that Miss Pulman would enjoy many a cup of tea from the teapot. Miss Pulman suitably replied, thanking the members for their useful present. Musical items were rendered by several present, afternoon tea being handed around. The third of a series of "Gift Afternoons" was held at Mrs Sharp's residence last Thursday afternooD, the attendance numbering upwards of 50. Mrs Vince was the hostess on this occasion, the two former afternoons having been given by Mrs Trimmer and Mrs Bharp. The weather waa all that could be desired. Mnsical items were rendered by Mrs F. L. Wright and Mrs Trimmer; songs by Mrs Grattan, Mrs Harrison, Miss Wood, Mrs F. L. Wright, and a duet by Mesdames Grattan and Sharp. A competition was won by Mrs Walker. Quite a large number of useful articles have b*an doiated in this way and will prove a great help to the children's school fete in December.
