SOLDIERS FAREWELLED
There was a large attendance at the smoke concert held in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, on Friday last in honour of Privates B. Foy, F, Wouldes, Monty Brown and Mooney, who were on final leave. Mr C. K. Lawrie presided and the secretarial duties were ably discharged by Mr H. Bilkey. A good programme of vocal and instrumental music was carried out in which the following contributed Messrs E. Webb, Ifferson, W. Butler, W. T. Jones and Luke Wilson songs, and Pte Mooney and Mr T. Mayes recitations, all the i'ems being well received. Messrs C. Kicketts and Webb acted as accompanists. During the interval the Chairman (Mr Lawrie) in an appropriate speech referred to the good (|ualitios of their departing guests and trusted they would have good luck and a safe return. He felt sure they would all do thoir best for King and Country and " play the game." Presentations were then made to each. Pte Foy was the recipient of a handsome set of military brushes, while Ptes Brown, Mooney and Wouldes oach received a pipe and case. Toasts wero proposed and duly honoured. Mr Lawrie proposed "Our Guests," " Tho Army and Navy " was proposed by Mr Frank Perkins, tho " Rod Cross Fund " was in tho capable hands of Mr Coady, Mr F. Brown proposed the " Boys at the Front," and Mr O'Loughlen was responsible for the toast of " Tho Allies." The function was well arranged and thanks wore expressed to all who contributed to such an enjoyable oveuing.
