WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE
Executive Meeting The Executive meeting of the P.B.W.P.L. was held in the Borough Council room on Tuesday, August 14th, present: Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdames Hogan, Stuart, McKae, Baxtei (.secretary;, and Misses Graham and Usher. A letter of acknowledgement and thanks was received from Miss Spedding (secretary Auckland League) for parcels of woollen and other articles, and a case of literature. A second letter from the same writer expressed the hope that the Auckland League would be able to provide at least. 6000 Xmas parcels for the men in the firing line alone, they also hoped to provide parcels for soldiers at sea and stationed in our outposts on Xmas Day and to do this everyone was requested to help in in the Dominion gilt scheme. Miss Webster reported that the canvassers in their respective areas had done exceptionally well, she had forwarded to Auckland money for 2GO Xmas parcels. The President and Secretary were appointed to attend the annual Conference to be held in the Auckland Town Hall on August 24th next. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the League on Thursday, August 30th. Mrs Thornell was duly elected a new member. Miss W r ebster reported that the sum of £l4 lls 2d had been collected at the '' Afternoon " held in aid of Dr Barnardo Saturday Fund and & balance of £l2 14s 3d had been forwarded to the Organising Secretary for New Zealand. Miss Webster further stated that as the result of an entertainment given by Mr N. Tait the sum of £2 8s 7£d was paid to the Red Cross Fund through their League. Miss Usher, convenor sewing committee, reported that her committee had made 11 pairs pyjamas, 1 pairs had been sent to Auckland the balance were finished and would be despatched immediately. Mrs Stuart, convenor Literature Committee, reported having forwarded to the Town Hall, Auckland, the usual box of books, etc. Mrs Baxter, convenor Knitting Committee, reported having forwarded to the Auckland Depot the following knitted articles: 57 caps, 22 pairs sox, 8 scarves and 12 pairs mittens. The convenor wishes to thank all the workers for| the support and interest taken in the comforts for our lads during the past months and hopes for a continuance of same. All Leagues are endeavouring to send as many comforts as possible as the goods must be sent away within the next few weeks to be of real service to the men through the coming winter.—Let us all help. The sum of £8 19s was granted the convenor to purchase wool for next month.

Sox Mrs Crookes 7 pairs, Mrs Perkins 2 pairs, Mesdames Kimber, Driver (Taupire), Harriman, Harvie, Fitness, McKae, Baxter, Misses Usher, McMuHan, Mavis Hay (Ponsonby), D. Energlet (Punij, Fausett, Yirgie Kimber one pair each. Scarves—Miss Given (Pollok) 2, Mesdames Usher, Maxwell, Misses Minnie Taylor, Una Muir, Wilson one each.
Mittens— Mrs Cowperwaite (Mt Eden) '.> pairs, Miss W. Webster one pair.
