MERCER.
MERCER TOWN BOARD At the meeting of the Town Board held on Monday of last week the following members were present, Messrs G. Morgan (chairman), Gallery, and Gillibrand with the Clerk, Mr: Norris. With regard to the vacancy caused by the resignation, consequent on removal from the district, of Mr G. Smith, the Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to receive nominations for the vacancy. The agreement with Mr Calder, the licensee of the Picture Palace was duly executed. The arrangements for the hire of the hall by Mr Calder were regarded as satisfactory as they provide some revenue for the upkeep of the building, the expenses of which are somewhat heavy. The caretaker of the Hall (Mr J. G<trlick) made application for an increase in his salary and an additional sum of £6 was granted. WAIKATO SHIPPING COY, LTD A meeting of he Directors of the Waikato Shipping Company, Ltd , was held at Hamilton on Friday la9t. There were present Messrs J. T. Johnson (chahman), R. Clephane, W Wilson, R. English, 0. Horrocks, C. C. Davis and E. T. Frost with the Manager (Mr A. L. Stevonson) The Chairman reported-that there had been a decidod expansion of a trade in eveiy Department, especially with the shipment of stores and oil. The demand for benzine was so great that the boats were now making two trips between Onehunga and Cambridge, instead of one. With the object of effecting an improvement in the state of the Waikato at Rangiriri it was decided to communicate with Mr R. F. Bollard, M.P, on the subject. To celebrate the forthcoming first trip of the " Freetrader" to Hamilton it was agreod to arrange a social gathering of shareholders and businessmen for the occasion.
