PAPAKURA.
TOWN IMPROVEMENTS. At the meeting of the Papakura . Town Board last Tuesday the chairman (Mr R. M. Gillespie) presented the following report bearing on the matters brought before the previous meeting of the Board by the Ratepayers' Association, viz. : Bridge at the end of Rouselle Street.—To relieve flood water two 12-inch pipes are necessary. The scrub and banks on either side of the creek should be removed to make a ford and a five-wire fence erected to prevent stock from reaching the salt water. Stock Koad. -At the back of Mr Widdowson's a nine-inch pipe from Buckland's corner connecting with cesspit is necessary and the present lay of 12 inch pipes requires to be lifted and relayed at an angle across the road. At the back of the Papakura Hotel a box drain 12in by 9in with a filling would be necessary. The main drain requires cleaning out to the point of its discharge into Messrs Willis Bros' property. Messrs Willis Bros, or the County Council should be requested to clean the drain through Messrs Willis Bros.' land as it is overgrown with noxious weeds. At Mr Richardson's frontage a 12-inch pipe from the fence line across two-thirds of the road is necessary with a filling. The remaining distance should be opened and graded back across to the opposite side of the road. From there to the main drain a distance of about one chain would require to be drained. The rise near the comer of Union Street should be cut down for filling over the 12-inch pipes mentioned —the cutting to be twelve feet wide. The corner of Mr Cole's property is a great inconvenience to travelling stock and a deputation from this Board should wait on Mr Cole with the view of getting him to present to the people of Papakura that angle of his property that is a danger to pedestrians and a source of great annoyance to drovers. Mr Cole's patriotism is a guarantee of his sympathetic consideration of our. request. He suggested to the Board that the Foreman of Works should be » instructed to proceed with this work immediately. The report was adopted.
The annual meeting of the Papakura Rifle Club will be held on Thursday next in the Parish Hall. Messrs Bodle and Nolan, representing the N.Z Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, met llr R. M. Gillespie and other members of the Papakura Town Board last Saturday afternoon and inspected the road leading to the Company's proposed new saleyards at Papakura. It was decided to wait on the Franklin County Council at their next meeting and to point out that it was not necessary to metal the road to make it fit for traffic. It was arranged to ask the Council to visit the road as a body. The cost of the necessary work was estimated at £25 and if the Council were prepared to undertake that expenditure the Company's cepresentatives agreed to proceed with the erection of the saleyards. A special meeting of the Papakura Town Board is to be held on Friday next for the reception and adoption of the annual balance-sheet.
