[The Fapatoetoe Agent for " The Times " is Mr W. J. Dilworth from whom copies of the paper may be ordered.] PAPATOETOE MUSICAL SOCIETY The annual meeting of the Papatoetoe Musical Society was held last evening, Mr J. A Bradstreet presiding. An apology for absence, owing to train arrangements, was received from Mr and Mrs May. The Treasurer (Mrs McCulloch) read the balance-sheet, which showed receipts amounting to £6l 3s 9d and expenses £59 9s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £1 14s. The same was adopted. The Secretary (Mr Reed) reported that the Committee recommended that the Society should be carried on during tht current year if possible. The chairman considered that as so many of the male members were away at the war or would be going to the front it would be advisable to ad j ourn until next year. He pointed out that the Society now only had three bass and two tenor voices and that there would als j be a difficulty in getting the services of the Conductor (Mr Long, of Ponfionby) through unsuitable train arrangements.
Mr Geo. Foster spoke in support of the chairman's remarks and stated that the Society last year had 18 hon members, which brought in an extra revenue of £9 10s in subscriptions. It would be impossible to get them to subscribe this year . and in consequence the Bociety would be in debt if they carried on. It was unanimously resolved that the Society should adjourn until March of next year. An impromptu meeting followed, when it was decided to hold a series of socials during the present winter season, a small charge to be made for the same and the receipts to go to the Red Cross Fund, the first of the gatherings to take place towards the end of June. The following ladies were appointed as a Committee to arrange the socials, viz., Mesdames Wells and Gillingham, the Misses Galloway, Beamey, Goodfellow and Wills.
PAPATOETOE BOWLING CLUB Play commenced on the Winter Green on Saturday last when there was a very fair attendance.
