NIGHT SOIL REMOVAL

Pukekohe's Dilemma Arising out of the cessation of soil removal in the Borough of Pukekohe as the result of the conviction of the Council's contractor fur the carrying on of an offensive trade within the Karaka Road Board's district a telegram was read at the meeting of the Borough Council on Wednesday from the District Health Officer asking what arrangements the Council were making for nightsoil disposal. Mr 11 J. Hawkins, the contractor, was in attendance and, in answer to Cr Baiter, he said that he was prepared to continue with the work if tfte Council found a site for a depot. He thought a property of somo 10 to 15 acres would suffice for the purpose. In to Cr Bilkey the Mayor statod that if a site was secured in the boiough and was approved of by the Health Officer and by the Council it could not be legally objected to unless a nuisance was caused. Alter dicussion Crs Barter, Bilkey and Beatty were appointed as a Committee to endeavour to secure a site for a depot in the borough, arrangements being made if their efforts were successful for the Council to moot on Monday next to endorse their action so that night-soil removal could bo again proceeded witli forthwith.
