PUNI. On 1 Wednesday, the 4 f h itist., what was generally regarded as the most successful function jvt held in the Puni Hall, took place, the occasion being a farewell to Mr and Mrs Henry Reynolds, who, after a long residence in the district, were leaving for the Bay of Plenty, and to Sergt.Major H. Roberts who was,on final leave, and to Mr E. Pollock, who was departing for camp. The gathering was held under the auspices of the Pukekohe West Tennis Club, of which body all the guests were members. Some 200 people were present, including practically all the residents of Puni, as well as many from the surrounding districts. Excellent music was supplied by Mr and Mrs E. Fausett, Mrs Roberts, Mr W. Davis, Mr J. Roberts, and Mr Joe Wright. The duties of M.O. were efficiently and cautiously carried out by Messrs J. Wright and J. Moffitt. Touting intervals in the dancing songs were rendered by Miss Whiting and Mr W. T. Jones, and were much appreciated. During an interval, Mr J. Costello de livered a short address, eulogising the. great services rendered by those going out to do battle for the Empire, and pointing out* the great sacrifices madp. Each of the departing guests then received presents as tokens of the esteem in which they are held by their fellow members and by the residents general'y. Mr Jas. Pollock, President of the Club, made the presentations, and in the course of a few well chosen words, wished each recipient every future happiness. The recipients suitably responded. Supper, which was provided by the Club, and was of more than usual excellence, was partaken of, after which dancing was resumed and continued till the small hours of the morning, when all departed, voting the function to have been most enjoyable. The arrangements reflected the utmost cfedit on those responsible for carrying it out.
Another farewell by the residents a of Puni was tendered Mr and Mrs Reynolds last Thursday evening in ~ the Hall, when there was again a large assembly. A presentation was a ! made them of a handsome marble clock, Mr W. T. Dazeley, in asking ® Mr Reynolds' acceptance of the P same, mentioning that all regretted •their foithcoming departure. Mr Reynolds suitably acknowledged the gift. Mr J. Wright ably carried out the duties of M.C. for the dancing and music was supplied by Mrs m Keane (Pukekohe East), extras being played by the Misses O'Con- „ nor and the Pa,tumahoe Orchestra. J Jamiesou, with the clerk (Mr JR. E. Glasson). METAL. Messrs Ambury's Ltd., wrote enquiring if the Board could supply thein with two waggon loads of crushed metal lying at the quarry, It ( was resolved, to reply that the se Board could supply any quantity of (\ uncrushed but not crushed metal. ai The Chairman also announce! that aI any ratepayer in the district desirous •< of obtaining uncrushed metal could c j] be supplied with the same at 4s per ] u yard. A ANZAC DAY. j 8 The Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs wrote enclosing a copy of the New Zealand Gazette relative to ihe commemoration of Anzae Day and the observances in connection with such. - On the motion of the chairman it was I resolved to hand the letter to the I chaiiman of the School Committee with a suggestion that the School flag should be hoisted on that'day. DAMAGE TO WATER TABLE. Mr F. H. Wells, of Papatoetoe, wrote relative to the charge made by the Board for damage to a watertabta on t i" Papakura-Waiau road for which he offered to pay £1 10s his propoitiJn of the cost. Mr Kid ! mentioned that to repair \l the daniogo done would cost the Board at least £2 10s and it was according'v resolved to reply that the Boa;d would accept the sum of £2 10s, faili'ig which they would bo compelled to take legal proceedings to recovei the same. l(OAl> DIVERSION. Mr J R. Bryant attended and asked the > onsent of the Board to the diversion of a new road through his propeity adjoining tlie Manukau beach. He explained that the proposed new road would provide better access to three settlers through their property. DRURY. The cadets dance in aid of the Wounded Soldiers Fund was held in the Drury Hall on Wednesday evening, April llth, and was attended by a fair number considering the condition of of the weather. Everyone present spent an enjoyable evening and all were sorry when the time for parting came. Messrs R. Hill and W. Piatt officiated as M.O.'s and carried out their duties in a very efficient manner. Messrs Cossey Bios., assisted by Miss J. Appleby, very ably rendered the necessary music. Supper was enjoyed as the catering was in the capable hands of Messrs J. and J. Rugg.
