PATRIOTIC SPORTS MEETING. Favoured with ideal weather, the gala and sports gathering organised by the Tuakau Patriotic League, on Saturday last, were well attended. Events continued to maintain the interest, whilst the Kohanga Maori Band enlivened the proceedings by the excellent music provided. The winners of the various events were as follows: Hop, Step and Jump: E. Revell 1, Kahui 2. IOOYds. Handicap: C. H. Parker 1, E. Revell 2. Best Walking Horse: Ivan Cathcart 1. Tossing the Caber: P. Clark 1, C. H. Parker 2. Sack Race: F. Andrews 1, H. Madill 2. 220 Yds. andieap: E. Revell 1, C. H. Parker 2. Cigar Race on Horseback: J. McGuire 1. Schools Championship: Ivan Cathcart 1, C. Logan 2. Obstacle Race: R. J. Glasgow 1, C. H. Parker 2. Sheaf Pitching: C. H. Parker 1. Driving Competition: E. Andrews 1. 440 Yds. Handicap: C. H. Parker 1, C. Revell 2. Wrestling Competition : P. Clark 1. Thread the Needle Race: E. Revell 1, R. Smeed 2. Tug of War (boys): Onewliero boys beat Tuakau boys two pulls to one. Children's Races.—Winners ; Boys (6 and 7 years): R. Osborne, A. Glasgow. Girls: S. Biddick, H. Russell. Boys (8 and 9): P. Graham, J. Lawsen. Girls: E. Lindner, L. Knowles. Boys (10 and 11): 0. Collier and Pellow. Girls: L. Andrews and M. Butterworth. Boys (12 and over): P. Revell and I. Cathcart. Girls: E. Droomgool and N. Andrews. Ladies' Driving Competition: Mrs. J. H. Craig 1, Mrs. D. Walker 2. A well-organised committee successfully carried out the details for the day, and the ladies proved untiring in their efforts to provide and serve tea and refreshments, which were much appreciated. A lolly and gift stall, managed by ladies, was also well patronised. The honorary secretaries, who did excellent work, were Messrs. .1. (. Quinlan and A. H. Tapper. Altogether the Patriotic Committee are In be congratulated on their efforts to provide so successful an entertainment. On Thursday of last week a social and dance was given by the newly formed nigger minstrel troupe, which proved an unqualified success. Occasion was taken to bid farewell and Godspeed to three local boys shortly leaving for camp, viz., Messrs. H. Madill, F. Henderson, and F. Pv.vder. Mr. \V. G, Graham, on behalf of the committee, in a fitting speech, presented each of the guests with a wristlet watch, the Ladies' Committee providing them also with comforts. A wellattended dance followed.
