MERCER.

WAIKATO RIVER BOARD. The usual monthly meeting of the Waikato River Board was held last Saturday, the members present being Messrs. A. G. C. Glass (chairman), M, Gallery, and S. P. Pendergast, with the clerk (Mr. E. Hallett). Maramarua Creek. A letter was read from the manager of the N.Z. Dairy Association's Pukekohe factory, complaining of the state of the Maramarua Creek, which it was alleged, had caused delay in the delivery of cream, owing to the blocking of the stream by willows* It was asked that measures should be taken to ensure the early clearing of the creek.—lt was resolved to reply that the Board would clear the creek of willows, but could not undertake to do other work until a subsidy was received from the Government. In regard to a communication on the same subject received from the Under Secretary of the Department of Lands, to whom the N.Z. Dairy Association's manager had also written, it was decided to reply that the grant received was not sufficient to do more than to clear the willows, and to ask for a further grant of £350 to enable the Board to properly clear the creek. Priestman Dredge Purchase. The clerk reported that a subsidy of £450 had been received from the Government towards the purchase recently made of a Priestman's dredge.— This was regarded as satisfactory. Overseer's Report. Mr. P. Sellar (overseer) reported that the work on the Maramarua Creek was progressing, and that the work on the Oautia Creek started on the 19th March was proceeding well. A special meeting of the Mercer Town Board was held on Thursday last for the purpose of conferring with the School Committee in regard to unveiling the Honours Board, which has been provided as a memento of the war for the purpose of testifying to the loyalty of those residents of the district who have answered the Empire's call. It was decided that the Honours Board, which is a handsome piece of work, should be hung in the Town Hall and its unveiling was fixed for Friday, April 13th, when a social and dance will l>e held. Mr. E. Hallett has generously undertaken •to be responsible until the close of the war for the fixing in gold letters on the Honours Board of the names of all of the local "boys" who don the khaki. Mr. F. J. Freeborn has resigned his appointment as clerk to the Town Board and Mr. C. Norris has been appointed to fill the vacancy.
