PAPAKURA.

At the Papakura Magistrate's Court last Friday, before Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M., John Butler was fined 10s and 7s costs for working a hois> with a sore shoulder. The owner of the horse, Martin L. Adams, of Karaka, was fined 20s and cjsts 7s for allowing the horse to be Woiked. Mr H. Alder, inspector for the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, appeared in the case. The Rev. T. F. Jones, of Auckland, is to succeed the Rev. W. S. Potter in the charge of the Papakura Methodist Circuit and he is expected to preach his first sermon at Papakura on Sunday, the 15th April.

An accident of a somewhat serious nature occurred ti an Auckland youth, named Junsen, on thn outskirts of Pap«kura on Sunday afternoon. Junsen started out with an intention of reducing the numhpr of rabbits in th* district but when looking over a bridge the trigger of his gun by, some means went off resulting in some of the fingers of his right hand being blown off. He

also received facial disfigurements. He was conveyed to the Auckland • Hospital where he is progressing as well as can be expected. There is a good prospect of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company starting on the erection of their new saleyards in Papakura at a fairly early date. The Company's foreman builder has viewed the site of the proposed yards and it is anticipated that the preliminary work will soon be put in hand. Mr Lockie Gannon, who has been

retained by the Town Board as Advisory Engineer,. visited Papakura on Friday evening and met the Board "in committee." He was instructed to fix permanent road levels and also to submit an estimate of cost for road improvements and for work on the concrete bridge on the Hunua road.
