AUCKLAND PRODUCE MARKET REPORT.
Mr J. Jones, auctioneer, Victoria and Lome streets, Auckland, reports as follows under date of Saturday, January 27th: — The market this week has been exceptionally, busy, and a large volume of business has been put through. The poultry market was heavily supplied, and prices are much lower than last report. Potatoes and onions are weaker. Fruit is selling well, and good prices are being obtained. Butter and eggs are steady. We quote : Poultry (2570 penned)-Hens, prime 2s 9d to 3s 4d, good 2s 5d to 2s Bd, smaller 2s to 2s 2d; cockerels Is 9d to 2s 7d ; roosters, prime 4s to 4s 7d, good 3s 3d to 3s lOd, ordinary 2s 9d to 3s; ducks, old Is 9d to 2s 3d, young and killable 2s 3d to 3s Id. Young cockerels and chickens are not in strong demand, though considering the time of the year and price of food satisfactory prices are being obtained. Geese 3s 3d to 4s 3d ; turkeys, gobblers 8s 9d to lis 6d, hens 4s to 5s 6d. Pigs, 12s to £1 4s 9d. Farm produce—Potatoes, prime £6 to £7 10s, smaller £5 to £5 10s; onions 6s to 7s; butter lid to Is; eggs Is sd; cheese 9d; hams lOd to lid; sides bacon lOd to to Hid; honey, bulk 3d to 4d. Fruit—Choice apples, cookers and dessert 9s 9d to 12s 6d, good 6s to 7s; plums, burbanks 2s 3d to 3s lOd, ogans 3s to 3s 6d; peaches 3s to 7s 9d; lemons, prime 9s to 9s 6d, rough and coarse 4s 6d to 5s 9d; pears 7s 6d; grapes Is 6d ; passions 6s 6d; black plums 5s to 7s 2d. Grain—Maize ss, wheat 7s, oats 4s 3d, bran £5 10s, sharps £B, chaff £7 10s.
