HUNUA.
On Friday, Dec. Bth, the people of Hunua took the opportunity of bidding farewell to Mr A. Martin at a social held in tbe church. Games were indulged in and solos and recitations were rendered by Misses J. Taylor and Hill, and Messrs Jenkins, Wilson and flillam. During the evening Mr Cox (Missionary) made a few eulogistic remarks regarding Mr Martin, after which Mrs Hill on behalf of the ladies guild, presented Mr Martin with a gold mounted fountain pen. Mr Martin suitably responded. An interesting cricket match was played at Hunua on Baturday, Dec. 9th, between North and South, the southern team being the visitors. Each side batted twice. Tbe final result was a victory in favour of the north end; the scores being North 93, South 39. D. McDonnell bowled well for the Southerners taking 4 wickets for 5 runs, whilst Civil and Campbell bowled the best for the Northerners. The batting was poor. Civil being the only player on either side who batted with any approaching confidence. He scored 38 not out. A return match is to be played at an early date. Quite a number of farms in Hunua have changed ownership lately. The latest is that of Mr Doughty. Some few months ago Mrs Doughty died and that fact influenced him in his desire to leave Hunua He has been farming here for about five years and during that time both he and his late wife made many friends who will regret his going away.
