MAGISTRATE'S COURT THURSDAY, 14th DEC. 1916 [Before Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M.] Judgment for plaintiffs by default was given in the following cases, viz : J. F. Shepherd, manager State Experimental Farm, Te Kawhata, v. J. McDiarmid, Cambridge, 7s, with ■ss costs; same v. W. Garrett, 7s with 58 costs; Waikato River Board v. John Hill, farmer, Pokeno, £6 7s, with 13s cost; same v. Sarah Jane Gordon Francis, of Auckland, £l2 os 3d, with £1 costs. In the defended case of James Brown & Sons, storekeepers, Pokeno, v. Wi Taka, flaxcutter, Kapuku, the defendant claimed credit for three payments of £1 each, whick he said he had made to Mr Brown, jun., between March and July, 1914. MiBrown denied having received these sums, and as defendant could not show any receipts, the Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiffs for the amount of their claim, £lloslld ! with £- "s 'Jd costs.

On the application of the receiver of Mental Hospitals, an order was made against Samuel G. Moses, of Churchhill, for payment of £36 5s 9d for maintenance of his wife while an inmate of an institution, the amount to be paid at the rate of 2s 6d per week. Defendant did not appear.
