KARAKA.

KARAKA ROAD BOARD The monthly meeting of the Karaka Road Board was held on December the 9th. Present: Messrs Batty (chairman), Kidd, Janiieson and Schlaepfer. It was agreed to send final notices to defaulting ratepayers. It was decided to send a deputation consisting of the members of the Board and any ratepayers who cared to go, to the meeting of the Franklin County Council next Thursday with regard to tho questions of the representation of the district on the Council if the Board merged. Correspondence with the Bank of New Zealand, relative to an overdraft, was read. **• The clerk reported that he had sent a demand to the Papakura Town Board for £SO, and to the Franklin County Council for £2O 3s lOd, their respective shares of interest re the cost of the Hingaia and Whangamaire bridges.— With regard to these bridges it was resolved to apply to tho State Guaranteed Advances Department for a supplementary loan, up to 10 per cent on the original loan of £3850, to £IOOO from the Karaka Land Company and £IOOO subsidy from the Government not being sufficient for all expenses in connection with the works. It was resolved to collect a 2-3 d rate on the special rating area concerned for the payment of interest and sinking fund for next year, instead of the full 1&d rate by which the loan was secured.

It was agreed to allow Mr R. F. Moore, the designer of the new bridges, £25 for travelling expenses. A letter was received from Messrs Gibbs, Dawson and King, drawing the attention of the Board to the 'state of the road opposite Mr Hardy's house, and at the junction of that road with the Papakura road. With regard to Heard's road it was agreed that the clerk should write to Mr Lockie Gannon, asking him to send specifications for a wooden bridge. It was decided to order 40 yards of 2iin. metal for the road in front of Paerata station.

A letter was received from the Franklin County Council stating that the matter of proclaiming the new Paerata road and the Papakura road to be the County roads would be reported on at the next meeting by the Couiity Chairman and Cr Henry.
