PAPAKURA.
A handsome silver cup, mounted onthree silver guns, presented by Constable Waugh to the Papakura Rifle Club for shooting competitions, is to be seen in the window of Mr A. Thorp's (bootmaker) shop in the Great South Road. Messrs Willis Bros, have completed arrangements for the erection of an up-to-date bakehouse on the vacant section between their own property and Mr Crawford's Pharmacy. Room is to be left on the front portion of the section for the erection of a shop. The architect conferred with Messrs Willis Bros, in respect to the project during the present week. As a result it is understood an oven, similar in design to the one installed in Mr F. Perkin's bakehouse, Pukekohe, will be placed in the building. The proceeds from the concert " Trial by Jury," produced quite recently by the Manurewa Musical Society, with the object of strengthening patriotic funds, amounted to £2O 153.
As a sequel to the recent agitation in regard to a German manufactured piano being placed in the Methodist Hall, the instrument was sold, and has been replaced by an English made instrument.
With a view of combating the epidemic of measles in the district the discontinuance for the present of the moving picture matinees for children that have been held weekly in the public hall.
