TUAKAU.

The .Children's Fair, to be held under the auspices of the Tuakau Patriotic League in the Public Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) is receiving encouraging support and promises to be eminently successful. The opening ceremony is to be performed in the afternoon by Mrs (Dr) McGuire, of Auckland.

The Tuakau branch of the Women's Patriotic League was again active last Thursday evening when a patriotic picture entertainment was given in the Public Hall. There was a good attendance although the weather was unfavourable. Mr Mann, operator of " Everybody's " Theatre, Auckland, kindly gave his services free and the League wish to thank tho manager of the NZ. Picture Supply Company for the free use of the picture plant used. The committee are indebted to the Misses M. Geraghty and F. Dickens who supplied the mu»ic for the whole programme. The chairman (Mr W. Graham) during the evening presented Mr Arthur Smeed, who is proceeding to camp, with a wristlet watch from the Patriotic League and a parcel of comforts from the Women's Patriotic League. He spoke in glowing terms of the esteem with which Mr A. Smeed is held through the whole district. Mr Smeed very suitably responded. Supper was provided and a dance followed, music boinjJ supplied by Misses Geraghty and Hodgson and Mr John Ryder. Mr C. Deed proved an able M.U. The proceeds of the gathering<imounted to £6 10s.

Advice has been received from the State Advances Office that the loan of £12,000, as approved at the recent poll, has been duly gazetted and that application should now be made to the Governor for his consent for the same to be taken up. The terms of the loan are 5| per cent plus one per cent licking fund spread over 30 years and the money will be supplied by the Public Trust Office.
