BUCKLAND.

The Parliamentary Union closed he 1916 session with a banquet in .he hall on Thursday evening of astweek. There was a good attendance of members and visitors From the surrounding districts and be function passed off most successfully. In the unavoidable Absence of the Lady Governor, Mrs H. H. D. Wily, Mr E. Allan took the chair. During the evening accasion was taken to bid farewell to Private Eric Howard, who was borne on final leave and Mrs Avery, on behalf of the Lady Liverpool League, presented him with a parcel of comforts. Private Howard, in a few well-chosen remarks, thanked all present for their good wishes and the League [or the gift. A very successful and largely attended euchre party was held in the Public Hall on Tuesday. October 3rd, by the members of the Buckland branch of the Loyal Pukekohe Lodge M.U. 1.0.0 V. After a well contested game Miss Ivy McNally proved the winner of the ladies' prize, while Mr J. Wolfe secured that for the men's. The minor prizes fell to Miss Condon and Mr B. Nelson. After supper had been served by the ladies the hall was cleared for dancing which was kept up till early hours of the morning, excellent music being supplied by Miss Hazel Home, Mr Nelson and Mr Leahy.
