WHANGARATA.

WHANGARATA PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. The usual monthly " At Home " af the Whangarata Patriotic League was held in the school on Wednesday, 27th September. The winner Df the guessing competition, for which the prize was a poker work plaque presented by Mrs Hayward, was Miss Francis Coad, who guessed 320 grains of maizo in the bottle, the actual contents being 319 grains. The thanks of the League are due to Mrs Hayward as by her gift the sum of £2 was collected, Tea was served during the afternoon and seven shillings was collected. The parcel forwarded to Mrs Parkes, Auckland, contained ten shirts (Mesdames Brewster three, Donovan two, Cooney, Fraser, D. Fulton, J. Fulton, Rapson one each), ten pairs pyjamas (Mesdames Rapson three, T. Smeed two, Donnell, Ludwig, W. Smeed, Fraser, Marx, one each), nine pairs sox (Mesdames Ewing two, Cruickshank two, Coad, Campbell, Hayward, W. Glasgow and Hyde one each), eleven handkerchiefs by the school girls), twelve towels and twelve cakes of soap and one pair of mittens given by Mrs Ewing. The League will be pleased to forward any garments from persons wishing to do a little towards helping the cause.
