PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH RALLY.

A new departure in church life was inaugurated on Sunday last in tit James' Presbyterian Church, Pukekohe, by the holding of a "Rally Day," the object of which is to secure at service on that Sunday the presence nt members of every family connected with the church. In the morning there was a good attendance, when the Rev. S. Nixon preached on "Presbyterianism." In an interesting address the preacher sketched the history of the Presbyterian Church since the time of the Reformation. As evidence of the spread and progress of the church during the intervening centuries it was stated that her membership throughout the world numbers over one hundred million.

In tbe evening the pulpit was occupied by tbe Kev. I. Jolly, M.A., of St Stephen'r Presbyterian Church, Auckland. Long before tbe hour of service the ordinary seating space was filled, and a number or forms bad to be obtained from the Masonic Hall in order to accommodate the large congregation that had assembled. Taking as an illustration Holman Hunt's great picture "Tbe Light ot the World," Mr Jolly preached an eloquent and inspiring sermon, basing bis remarks no Kev. iii., 20. Tbe address was listened to with rapt attention throughout. Tbe choir, which had assembled in full numbers, was in good voice, and rendered effectively tbe anthem "Break Forth Into Joy" (Harnicott). Tbe first Kally Day in St. James' proved so successful that tbe Kev. b. Nixon intends making it an annual occurrence.
