RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL

The ordinary bi-monthly meeting of the Baglan County Council waa held on Wednesday. INJUSTICE ALLEGED. Mr J. Dean appeared before the Council and alleged that he had been the subject of unjust treatment by the Council while, in 1913, engaged in flax-carting near Rangiriri on the Bangiriri-Glen Murray road. Ee had had to place a deposit of £75 with the Council, under the prevision of the heavy traffic by-laws of the county, and of this sum only £2 was returned. The gist of Mr Dean's allegations was that the Council's action was highly unjust on 6, and he pointed out that tlix, other than his supply, had gone over the road and that at a period when his mill was out of commission. Under those circumstances he held it was unfair to saddle him with the full cost of maintianing the road and allowing others to go sc>t free. The Council appointed its engineer and Crs McKinnon and Lowry to investigate the allegations and report, It was further stipulated, however, that Mr Dean would require to make a deposit before further catting was done, but uuder the circumstances this was fixed at the low figure of £25.

SWING GATES. Mr Alex Cathcart, Onewhero, applied to be allowed to erect swing gates on the road through his farm, Lot 23a, Pukekawa.—lt was decided to inform Mr Cathcart that the request was not in order, as it had to be advertised twice* BTOCK OUTLET SOUGHT. Messrs Fro.-t Bros, of Tuakau, sought an outlet for stock from a block of land they had purchased from the natives in the Onewhero district. The writers said that it was impossible to get on to the property, but there was a road down the bank of the river from Tuakau bridge, which intersected a second one leading to the writers' property close to Lapwood's flaxmill. For a small sum, they stated, a track could be cleared down the bank and they understood that Mr Wallace would give a lot of good timber in a wharf, which cculd be pulled up and utilised for bridging a creek and a drain. At present the writers .could not get a horse down without trespassing on the peoplo's property. They were prepared to give a donation of £lO towards the work.

The council instructed its engineer and Cr. Moore to report upon the application.
