TUAKAU.
A reply to the Towu Board's request tor direct telephonic tommunicaliun between Tuakau and Auckland has been received from the Postmaster - General (Sir Joseph VVaid, Bart), K.C.M.G., to the eft'eet that when the work of coustiuctitg the new circuit, in course of erection between Auckland and Tuakau, was finished, probably in about a month's time, direct communication between the two places will be available. The matter of making provision to deal with the refuse that gathers in the streets of the township was brought forward at Tuesday's Town Boaid meeting by Mr H. Crais;, who suggested that as a means of overcoming the difficulty baskets for the depemt of rubbish should be placed in streets to be determined. The chairman, iu supporting the idea, said that as soon as the streets were dealt with iu accordanco with the loan proposals the suggestion would have to be acted upon.
When recently in We liugton 83 a deputation from th* Town Bond Messrs Dynes Fult<ni and H. B Free put before the Minister of Public Wurks an application for a subcidy towards the cost of a new bridge on the maiu Tuakau-Raglan road. The Minister has now replied that he is unable to fill iu with the request and he adds that no money is available for new works.
