MRS MAKQErid FAREWELLEI) Mouibers of the Manurewa Musical Society assembled iu force at Mrs Huntly's boarding bouse on Saturday evening last for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mrs Margetts, who has been an active supporter of the Society. Musical items were rendered by the Misses Freshney, Messrs Seatou, Mabee, Corin and Bell, aod a dainty supper was 89i ved. Subsequent to the repast, Mr E S. Fegler, the chaiiman of the onimittee, made a presentation of some fine musical works to Mrs Margetts. He stated that he was voicing the feelings of ev«ry member of the Society when be s-iid th*y sincerely regretted the fact that Mrs Margetts was about to leave them Bhe had bean a practical, euthusiast'c member; practical iu tint whenever called on she had been ever ready to atsist the Society or any other organisation that required her services. After a thorough and full training in music she had devoted her talents for the benefit of all. Such a useful and unselfish member could ill be spared from any community, much less a small community such as theirs. Mrs Margetts' leaving was not only a Society's loss, but it was a community's loss. It was with pleasure- that he asked Mrs Margetts, on behalf of the Society, to accept the little token, indicative of the kind regards and good wishes of every member of the Society. At the conclusion of the evening Mr Corin moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mis Huntly for her generosity in placing her house at the disposal of the Society.
Mr Archdale Taylor, who was to have taken the leading role in the Musical Society's approaching presentation of •• Tiial by Jury," has suffered a nejvous breakdown and has been ordered by his medical advisers to have at least a si: months' rest. The Society has, for the time being, poetponed the production till next month, when a recast of characters will be made.
Ihe Railway League formed for the purpose of securing a better railway service for the PapakuraMnaurewa line havo started tn a canipagu. As the ladies of the district covering this agitation—that is, Wiri, Manurewa, 'Jakauini and Papakura- areso directly interested in the movement, it is probable that a Ladies' League will be formed to further the cause, and thus back up the eft'oits put forth by the sterner sex.
