FATUMAHOE

A SUCCESSFUL DANCE. The Cadets of Patuuiahoe held a plain and farcy dress ball in the local hall on Thtnsday eveuing of last week, which was highly successful 'There was a very large attendance and the fun tion passed off most pleasantly. Proceedings opened with the singing of the National Anthem followed by the Grand March, in which tuo.-t of the dancers took part. Prizes were awarded for the best fancy costumes as the result of voting by all present. Three ladies, viz, Mrs C. Nott, Miss Frances Bailey and Miss Glover tied with an equal number of votes and on " a draw " Miss Glover was the winner. In the men's section Mr Horace Hay secured Ili9 award. Messrs H. Hay, G. Howard and G. McAlpine acted as M.'sC, while lirst-class music was supplied by Mrs Kean of Pukekohe East. During the interludes songs were rendered by Messrs Banks and Queenin.

Among the ladies in fancy costumes were : Mrs C. Nott, " Grandmother " : Miss Glover, " Queen of Hearts"; Miss Frances Bailey, " Servia " ; Miss V. Bailey, " Bkippor's Daughter " ; Miss F. Bailey, " Gaiety Dancer " ; Miss Winnie Davy, " Winter " ; Miss Dons Howaid, "Daffodil"; Miss Dacey, " France " ; Miss Parkinson, " Bod Cross Nurse " ; Miss Glover, "Scraps" ; Miss E. Maxwell, " Monday's Washing Day " ; Mrs Banks, "Belgium" ; Miss Aldridge, "Snowdrop" ; Miss M. Kea, " Battledoor and Shuttlecock " ; Miss V. Wright, " Scotch Lassie " ; Miss N. Goldsworthy, " French Fisher-girl" ; Miss D. Hay, " Pierutt " ; Miss J. Dale, "Night" , Miss G. Dale, " Strand Mngaziue " ; Miss Chahnere, " Madam La Pompalour." Among the men in fancy attire were : Messrs H. Hay, " British Admiral" ; J. Haywood and J. Banks, " Clowns " ; J. Kennelly, " Parson " ; G. Arvidson, " Tramp " ; J. Black, " King o! Hearts " ; P. MilleD, " Jcckey " ; T. StaDdiug, " Mexican Cowboy."
