PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of tbe Pukekohe Borough Council was be Id last Wednesday evening, the members present being the Mayor, Mr H. G. K. Mason, Crs Koadley, Clarke, Beatty, Patterson, Motion and Barter, with the Town Clerk, Mr J. If. Deane. LICENSING OF TAXfS. A letter waa received from Ibe W aiuku Town Board complaining of the hardships inflicted on ownera of W aiuku motor cars plying for bire between Waiuku and Pukekohe in having to pay a license io Pukekohe as well as being licensed io Waiuku, and it was poiuted out that the Board did not charge a fee to Pukekohe car owners. The Town Clerk mentioned that tbe amount at tbe tee was £1 per annum. Tbe Mayor stated that the cara did their main business in Pukekohe, and used the streets several times every day, wbereaa if Pokekobe owned eaia engaged for hire went to Waiuku they did not pick up passenserß there. It waa decided that the Waiuku Town Board should be informed that the Council did not propose to alter existing conditions. ROAD WORKS. Cr Roadley, acting-cbairman of the Works Committee, reported that the Committee recommended that Victoria Street should be metalled witb scoria. Be explained that tbe residents on that road claimed that they bad a grievance bb they contended tbat the metalling of tbe road was provided for in an old loan, for wbicb a special rate was paid, and tbat the money was diverted to another source. Mentioning that the cost of the work would be £IOO, he proposed tbat tbe Committee's recommendation should be adopted. Cr Clarke seconded, remarking that the ruad was extensively used by conveyances goiog to the dairy factory. Ihe Foreman of Works, Mr Clsws, stated tbat be believed the loan referred to by Cr Koadley dated back to tbe time of the old Town« Board. The Mayor expressed the opinion that there were other roads in tbe vicinity ot King street tbat required more urgent attention than Victoria road. Cr Beatty comfcatted tbe Mayor s remarks, saying that tnere was only light traffic on the roads referred to by the Mayor, whilst Victoria road took the heavy traffic going to the factory. The motion was adopted. A suggestion by Cr Patterson that tbe condition uf Tobin street requ!red attention was reterred to the Works Committee, as also was a proposal by Cr Batter that improvements should be effected to the road leading from Manukau road to the Power Bouse. TBE FIKE BRIGADE. Uoon the application of Cr Motion tbe Pire Brigade Committee
were authorised ta arrange for placing the iirebell, r.ow in Hall street, in • tower to be erected at the F'.re Brigade station and to remove the present structure, on which the bell was bung, to the Brigade'B Station for it to be used for hose-drying purposes. BLACKBEKKY OBSTRUCTIONS. It was resolved to call on Cr Bilkey to cat blackberries that were obstructing a drain adjacent to bis properly in Queen street, and also to request the Detence Department to remove cuttings of bbekberries that had bten left by the side of the road round tbeir property in Edinburgh street. FINANCE. It was decided to make application to the Bank of New Zealand for an overdratt to the full extent of the Council's legal limit. Debit balances of £1240 and £1221 were reported on the General Account and District Fund Account respectively and accounts totalling I3<il were passed for payment.
