BUCKLAND.

On Saturday night the Pukekohe Pierrota gave a very successful and enjoyable entertainment in the Public Hall to a full house, the proceeds of which were devoted to the local branch of the Lady Liverpool League. The first portion of the programme consisted of vocal solos, which were well received and encored; the second portion included choruses, songs and recitations bv the Pierrota in costume, which were all thoroughly enjoyed. At St. Luke's Church on Sunday morning the Rev. J. P. Cowie unveiled a tablet in memory of Gunner George Gutidry, who was one of the many who nobly gave their lives for their country at Galliuoli. Ha had been member of the Church choir, and much respected in the district. A large congregation attended. The tablet was presented to the church and Bent out from England by Gunner Gundry's lather. ihfi Sunday school held their anniversary in the afternoon, and this year, instead of the children receiving prizes, they donated the sum of £'i lUs that would have been spent on them to the Soldiers' Widows' and Orphans' Fund. The Parliamentary Union had a large attendanc2 last Monday nigbt. Mr E. Ncal was elected speaker, and Mr J. Wylie Ueputy-Speaker and Chairman of Committees for the ensuing session. After numerous questions had been asked and answered, the Premier moved the following resolution: "That the New Zealand Government should nlfer another Dreadnought to the Imperial Government." The Opposition argued that the same money spent in flying machines and munitions would be the better gift, as it would be available fur use much sooner, and an amendment to that effect being carried, the Premier moved the adjournment of the House, so that the Government could consider their position.
