With tbe praiseworthy object of assisting tbe patriotic funds the ladies of Manurewa are carrying out a series of Red Cross Teas and tbe gatherings in every cage have been among the most successful of the kind of any in the. Auckland province. All previous efforts were, however, eclipsed at the function, organised by Mrs C. K. Bailey and Mrs W. Palmer that took place yesterday afternoon in the Public Hall. The building was weil filled, and a strong committee of young ladies dispensed a dainty afternoon tea.

Mr I. Seaton opened the musical programme with a song, which was very tastefully rendered. Mr T. J. Corin f llowed with a musical monologue. Mrs H. Williamson, of Auckland, after being introduced to the audience by Mrs Bailey 'as organiser of the Bed Cross Teas, outlined the scheme from its initiation, intimating that in the four months previous to May 29th of last year the sum of £ll2B accrued by way of tbe shillings that were donated at the teas. In instancing tbe great work the Victoria League was carrying on, she remarked that in additiun to the various bundles of articles and money that had be-n sent out for distribution ti "our boys," tbe League was expending £l3O per month.

The entertainment was then resumed, Messrs Burke, Alsace, Newman and Poincaire, by kind permission of Fuller's, Ltd., delighting the company with their various selections as given at the Upera House.

On the conclusion of the programme tbe Auckland nrtisiß were thanked by Mra Bailey for the aactiiice they had made in coming out to provide Manurewa with Buch a pleasant and delightful entertainment. Three cheers were given for the party, and Mr Alsace returned thanks on their behalf. The prcceeda amounted to over £l2, and included two donations of £1 Is each from Mra E. Russell and Mrs A. E, Druce.

The hall was artistically decorated with flags for the occasion bv Mr A. G. Mabee, who also very kindly acted as donrkepeer. The ladies who dispensed the afterrcon tea were:—Misses D. and M. Walisch.
