BUCKLAND.
A very successful social was held in the Public Hall on Monday night, to bid farewell to Sergeant E. Davy, of the 15th Reinforcements, who is home on final leave, the intention also being to welcome home Sapper Fellows, who is back from the front. Mr H. H. D. Wily presided and in a few well chosen remarks wished his old pupil, Bergt. Davy, God-speed and a safe return. Councillor Wilcox also gave a short address, in the course of which he urged ail young men to enlist before conscription came into force. After a few remarks by Corporal McEvoy and Sergt. " Monte " Bilkey, Sergt. Davy responded. Sapper Fellows sent an apology for his unavoidable absence. The following programme was rendered viz. : Vocal solos by Mesdames Hewitt, McAnally, Miss Bagnall, Messrs A. Smith, T. Walker and Sergt. Davy ; pianoforte duet by Misses Allan and Home; vocal duet by Mrs McAnally and Miss Neal; and a recitation by Mr S. Harper. The ladies kindly provided supper and after the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem and cheers for the Foldier guests, the hall was cleared for a dance which was kept up till midnight. A pleasant evening is expected tomorrow (Saturday) night when the Pukekohe Pierrots are to give an entertainment in aid of the funds of the local branch of the Lady Liverpool League. The fortnightly meeting of the Parliamentary Union will be held on next Monday night, when the Government's Land Tenure Bill comes on for discussion. Property keeps changing hands in this district. Messrs O'Connor Bros, have just exchanged their farm for another at Matamata. »
