PATUMAHOE

KAIL WAY LINE OPENING. BALLASTING LELAYED. Whilst in Wellington last week in connection with County Council business, Crs J. Flanagan and I. J. Lockwood interviewed the Minister for Works (the Hon. W. Fraser) in regard to his recent promise to open at an early date the section of the new Waiuku liuo from Paerata as far as Patumahoe, the construction work of which has been practically completed. The Minister explained that his promise had not been overlooked but the difficulty had been that he had been unable to secure in the North Island a spare engine to carry out ballasting operations on the "line. He was therefore arranging for an engine to be brought from Blenheim for the purpose and when it arrived ballasting would at once bevput in hand and the line opened at the earliest opportunity. At the Huntly Kennel and Poultry Club's Show, held last week, Mr Eric Hay was a very successful exhibitor. In the classes for Cocker Spaniels i any colour) his dog " Kutupura Cinder" secured first prize ia each of the following classes, viz , Novice, Limit, New, Zealand Bred and Oj ea; and " Flirt," alto his property, won iec ma p ize for bitches, Limit, New Zealand Bred and Open ; whilst "Kutupura Cinder" and "Flirt" were placed second in the Brace Class.
