WHANGARATA.
FARMERS' UNION. The annual meeting of the Whangarata Branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the school-hou' e on Saturday last, the president (Mr J. Fulton) being in the chair. The balance sheet was read and confirmed, the Branch being on a satisfactory financial footing. The annual report showed the Branch to have nude satisfactory headway during the last twelve months, a slight increase in financial members being noticeable. It also stated that a large amount of business has come before the Branch during th 9 year and by deputations and correspondence to local bodies and Government Departments some improvements have ' been accomplished The following were elected to fall the various offices for the ensuingyear. President, Mr J. Fulton (reelected); vice-presidents, Mr Uoad (re-elected) and Mr Hayward; eeoretary and treasurer, Mr P. J. Cooney re-elected); auditor, Mr AV. Rapson (re-elected).
It was unauimously decided to make a life member of Mr G. Riston a former vice-president, who is serving with the forces in Egypt.
The recent rain has dene a considerable amount of good and already the district is showing a freshened appearance, the young grass, of which there is a fairly large area, looking particularly well.
