PATUMAHOE
The Cadets of the Mauku district held their annual ball in the Patumahoe Hall on Friday evening last and a record gathering was present, the proceeds amounting to £9 10s. The hall was very artistically decorated with greenery, the work of the Cadets. The secretary, Mr Horac9 Hay, and committee worked well together to make everything a success. The dance music was supplied by Mr Reid, and several extras by members of the gathering. Messrs G. Howard and H. Hay acted as M.C.'s The ball was opened by singing the National Anthem, folby the Grand March and Walt/.. During the interval for supper Lieut. Johns, of the Mounted Rifles, on behalf of Sergt.-Major Bridgeford, drill instructor, and the cadets, thanked all those present for their attendance, which showed, he said, the high esteem in which the Cadet movement was held. Ho also stated that a Patumahoe section of Cadets was going to be formed, and for that reason the Cadets were going to hold a series of socials this season tu collect funds for that object, and he asked for the support of all those present and f-aid that he would be only too pleased to help them in any way he could. Residents of the district are moving in the direction of having a telephone exchange in tho new potit oltice, and it is understood that the full number of subscribers required are forthcoming.
