MANUREWA.
MANUREWA ROAD BOARD. The ordinary monthly meeting of the above authority was held yesterday Present: Messrs G F. Druce (chairman), W. Brown, A. Muir, P. Roy and C. Coxbead, together with the clerk, Mr A. J. Mabee. KOAD DEVIATION. The Consulting Engineer to the Boar 1, Mr J. Dawson, wrote stating tliat he would not be able to complete the plans for Coxhead's road deviation before Friday, the 7th April, and recommended a meeting of the Board for that date. The clerk stated that a meeting would have to be held for the purpose of signing the plans before submitting them. Mr Coxhead said that Mr Clayton had objected to the route of the the deviation through his (Mr Clayton's) proptr-y because it encroached too far [thereon. He considered that better ground could be obtained by taking it a chain further away. The clerk reported that the surveyor was of opinion that it would be impossible to make a good job of it by taking a different route, and that the present route had been taken to save filling in. Mr Coxhead claimed that it would not save all the filling in, and that the surveyor had promised to consult the engineer on the matter, but failed to do so It was resolved to make application for a £4OO £ for £ grant for the work, and to hold a meeting on the date suggeste 1. A PROPOSED BRIDGE. Mr Muir reported that in compliance with the Board's instructions he had mot the members of the Papatoetoe Road Board and Messrs Price and McLoughlin in connection with the proposed bridge over the Puhi Nui Stream and Mr Price offered to pav £oo towards the work and the Papatoetoe Board half of the estimated balance on condition that the Manurewa Board paid the other half, £75. On the clerk intimating that the Board was awaiting a formal reply from the Papatoetoe Board it was decided to leave the matter in abeyauce. TENDERS. In iespouse to the Board's request fresh tenders were received for carting scoria and in nnny cases the prices were lower. Mr G. Thompson was the successful tenderer for carting on the following roads, viz , Brown's, Hilt's, Wattle Farm, Weymouth, Palmer's, McMitts, Kerr's, Steel's, Druce's and Le Petits, Mr and Mrs A. Muir have returned home after a pleasant motor trip in which Rotorua, Morrinsville, Wa hi and Te Puke were visited. They were away for a fortnight Mr Muir is more satisfied than ever that the roads in the Manukau County are equal if not superior to any he travelled over. That Road Board work makes a heavy encroachment on the time of its members is quite conclusive. The Manurewa Board will, after their next meeting on the 7th April, have held three meetings in a space of three weeks.
