AKA AKA.
On Friday last the members of the Aka Aka Drairage Board made an inspection of the northern channel of the Waikato river, into which the Aka Aka and Otaua districts discbarge their drainage, with a view ot examining for themselves the effect that the groynes put in by the Waikato Kiver Board had had upon the cbannsl. At low water the extent of the silting is fully revealed, 'ihe inspection, it is claimed, showed that the groynes deflecting the waters of the river from their usual course have allowed a vast amount of silt and sand to accumulate in the chute, threatening the outlets of the Eastern and Mawhitiwhiti drains, and unle&s something is done at an early date to relieve the situation it was thought ttiat seriouß damage must btlore very long enaue to the reclaimed (and. The channel, which tormerly to follow the northern bank of the river is now forced over to thg shores of Motokeke island, and the winter freshrs which at one time used to disperse any accumulation of sands appeared to bs now effectually prevented by the groynes from scouring the chute. A gcod deal ot uneasiness is felt by the settlers generally as to the ultimate effect upon their lands, and it is hoped that at their next meeting the Drainage Board will carefully consider the matter
