ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED TRIBUTE TO THE BRAVE. St. Luke's Church held a crowded congregation on Thursday evening last on the occasion of a special service held for the unveiling and dedication of a Roll of Honour bearing the names of all those from the Manurewa district who have enlisted with the Forces. He instanced Ihe case of an invalided soldier at Rotorua who, although twice wounded, wss again returning to the. firing line, while men were strolling about with their hands in their pockets neglecting the call on them
In depositing the KoH 0} Honour in its position on the wall near the altar the rev gentleman said "Wo now place it upon the wall of this church to temind us of their service anil sacrifice and that it may serve as a c»ll to pray for tbem and for the cause in which they are engaged." The Koll of Honour is encased in an oak frame two feet bv two and a-halt feet. In the scroll at the head of the Roll in exquisite desgn appear designs of the Hags of England, France, Russia, Belgium and Italy, with the wording "Roll of Honour, War Declared l'Jl4, t»e?ce Declared —. He was mentioned in dispatches and was decorated by the King and also by the President of France with a military crcs?. He is now engaged as an instructor under Lord Derby's fcheme
