In reply to a request for a grant to cut blackberries on Riverside road, from Sutherland's to the White bridge, the Department of Agriculture notified the Board that they could not accede to the request, and suggested that the settlers should attend to the matter. They asked, however, for particulars of the property in the locality. The clerk stated that the Department had had the blackberries cleared from the road in previousyears.—The clerk was instructed to forward particulars of the property that the Department had dealt with on former occasions. THE QCARRY ITRCHASE. Tho Audit Office conveyed the information that the method of purchase of the quarry, involving as it did the payment of interest on unpaid purchase money, was not sanctioned either by the Road Boards Act or the Local Bodies Loans Act, so it was consequently illegal. Mr Walsh suggested that a way out of the difficulty would be to charge a royalty on all metal sold from the quarry and to defray the interest out of the money that accrued. In supporting Mr Walsh's suggestion, Mr Lulse stated that at the time the Board acquired the quarry Government assistance was promised. Mr Walsh proposed that a quarry account be kept as from April Ist next, and that out of the royalty received the interest be paid and any surplus be expenled in paying off the cost of the quarry. Mr Luke seconded, and tho motion was agreed to. A URANT WITHHELD. With reference to the expenditure of the Maitaitai to Hauraki Plains, via Orere, grant of £250, the District Engineer of the Public Works Department wrote stating that it had been decided, in view of the conditions contained in the Under Secretary's letter re " votes for construction of roads and bridges," not to take any action at present ia regard to expending the grant.—The chairman was deputed to ascertain if the grant would become available later. Mis' ELLANEOt'S. The Papakura Valley Road Board wrote informing the Board of the bad state of the road in front of the gate leading to Mr Wheeler's property on Brookby road.—lt was agreed that the matter should be attended to. After considering legal advice on the matter, Mr Luke and the clerk were empowered to draw up an agreement between Mr J. Quinn and the Board with reference to the proposed deviation through the former's property at Maitaitai. It was also agreed to instruct the Board's solicitors to have the old road closed and the Board's engineer to prepare a survey of the proposed deviation. The chairman was authorised to proceed, in company with those appointed to represent the other authorities concerned, with the erection of the new pound at Ardmore. Messrs Chas. White and E. Wilson waited on the Board in connection with the clearing of the Black Bridge creek. They pointed out that they had cleaued the boundary d'ain between their properties and wished to proceed with the clearing of the Black Bridge creek, but not before they received assurance that all the ratepayers responsible were going to similarly act, as it would be futile for them to proceed when the creek was full of water. —Mr Walsh was appointed to interviow those concerned with a view of getting them to work conjointly at the one time.
