D. 8011, J. Bryant, A. Hattaway, together with the clerk, Mr A. Bell. BEACH ROAD, MARAETAI. Messrs E. Porter and Co., acting od behalf of Nobel's Explosives Co , Ltd , conveyed the lattei's willingness to subscribe £2OO towards the proposed formation of Beach Eoad, past the Explosives Magazine at Maraetai, on condition that the Government would grant them for a period of eight years exemption from the regulation that required explosives magazines to be not less than a certain distance away from a public road, and a guarantee of undisturbed use of the magazine for that period. They hoped that the Council would be able to convince the Premier and other Ministers of State that the request should be granted. The chairman stated that the road which the proposed road would substitute was dangerous as slips frequently occurred thereon. The Foreman of Works replying to the chairman stated that the proposed road could be put through for the £2OO offered and an additional £IOO from the Government. Cr 801 l said that the ratepayers were interested in getting a road, not in having the magazine shifted. He proposed that tho scheme should be accepted and every assistance given to have the conditions as asked for granted, Cr Bryant seconded and the motion was carried. RAILWAY AM) I't'liLlC RIGHTS. Mr M. H. Oram, secretary of the Manurewa Progressive League, wrote referring the Council to the Railway Department's action in closing the railway crossing on the Weymouth road, which, he suggested, might entail the pennaneut loss of the right of the public to cross the railway either by subway or overhead bridge. On behalf of the residents of Manurewa he asked that the Council should use their best endeavours to conserve the rights of the public of Manurewa in the matter. As Cr Muir was cot present at the meeting and the locality concerned was in bis riding it was decided to refer the matter to him. A IiOADINU PROJECT. A letter was received from the Papakura Valley Road Board informing the Council that they did not feel justified in taking over the proposed road through the Otahuhu Trotting Club's property with a continuation through Mr Walters' property. The Board pointed out that as tho road would come to a dead end on Mr Walters' land it would thereby only sorve several people, whereas if it was continued out to the cross road on the south side of Mr Walters' property it would serve a considerable portion of the district. On the motion of the chairman the clerk was instructed to forward a copy of the letter to Mr Walters. IOREMAX's UEI'ORX. The Foreman of Works, Mr C. Dixon, reported as follows : —That the crushing, stacking and laying of 700 yards of maintenance metal from Thorpe's quarry had been completed and that a further 300 yards from Talbot's pit had been crushed and stacked. The quarrymen were engaged spawling 600 yards metal for relaying Bull's Flat, which work would be commenced at the end of the week Twelve planks had been sent to the Wairoa riding for repairing bridges, wbile several small jobs authorised at tho previous meeting were held back to be worked when the plant was in the district; He suggested that a pile and strainer at the Maitaitai wharf which had been damaged by the s.s. Hirere should be replaced. The report was adopted. OKEUE-MIHAMU ROAK Messrs Cambridge, A. Rowlands and C. Grosvener formed a deputation that waited on the Council with a view of procuring assistance to have the Orere-Miranda road formed. Mr Cambridgo suggested that as the work would cost £6OO the Council should subside the sum of i'2oo, £ for £, which amount they were prepared to give in the event of the Council giving thorn an assurance to proceed with tho work before the winter set in. The chairman submitted tho loreman's estimate for the work amounting to £B'J;J and on further consideration Mr Chambers suggested that the length of the road could be reduced by a mile, thereby lessening the cost according to tho engineer's estimate by £l2O Cr Bel 1 expressed his readiness to expend as much as the riding could reasonably be expected to. The chairman stated that the Council would be prepare 1 to expend £--30 if tho settlers concorned were prepare! to expend a similar amount and to sanction the rating of their properties for the balance.—This was agreed to and on Cr Bell's motion the work was santionod, the deputation offering to aa'-ist with labour.
