LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The following pupils of MissMillicent Taylor, F.S.M. and 0.T., (University College) were successful at the recent University musical examination, viz., first class (pass 75 marks), Madge McNally, 82 marks ; Edith McNally, 77 marks. Owing to the revised summer train service the mail for places on the Thames branch line closes at the Pukekohe post office as from to-day at 10 a.m. There is, however, no alteration in the time of the closing of the mail at 10 45 am ior the Eotorua and Main Trunk lines. On the 21st November the New Zealand Dairy Association, Limited, distributed amongst its suppliers the sum of £85,1 <33 4s 4d. This covered 1,433,4701bs of butter-fat supplied during the month of October. The amount distributed for the corresponding month last year was £68,715 2s 2d, thus the increase for the month was £16,438 2s 21.
Consequent on the absence from Auckland of Mr Kettle, S.M., Mr Frazer will confine his magisterial duties to the city and pending other arrangements the country courts, viz., Pukekohe, Mercer and Papakura will be presided over by Mr Page, S.M., of Whangarei. It is anticipated that Mr Page will occupy the Bench for the first time at Pukekohe to-morrow.
Messrs J. T. Stembridge & Co. report:—At our usual Friday's sale at the Pukekohe Auction Mart last week we had a good attendance. Entries were low in most lines. No pigs were entered. Poultry were in small numbers, with potatoes, cabbage, and cauliflowers in short supply. All entries sold at satisfactory prices, leaving a demand unsatisfied. A bankrupt stock and miscellaneous goods sold at satisfactory prices.
The Australian touring combination, known as the " World-at-War Picture Coy." have included in their itinerary the districts of Rama Rama, Bombay and Clevedon, where a lengthy exhibition of films, dealing with the present great European crisis will be shown on Friday, Saturday and Monday respectively. Some of the most important include "With the British Fleet," "The Battle of Calais," and the "Belgian Cavalary." For particulars see advt.
At the meeting of the Pukekohe Carnival Executive held on Saturday last a well deserved tribute of appreciation of services rendered was paid to the Pukekohe Town Band in the form of a vote of thanks for the cordial and ready manner in which the Band had assisted the various Carnival functions. The Band, it may be remarked, came forward on every occasion with honorary aid and seeing that their own finances are none too flourishing their loyal co-operation is all the more commendable.
The train alterations for the rerevised summer service, operating as from to-day, are that the train for the Thames line calls at Pukekohe at 10 37 a.m, the Rotorua Express leaving at 11.11 a.m, the latter not stopping at Tuakau, The trains from Rotorua and Thames for Auckland are timed to stop at Pukekohe at 2.51 pm. and 3.38 p.m. respectiyely. The train previously leaving Pukekohe at 4.15 p in. for Mercer will leave at 4.5 pm. The 10.5 a.m. train for Auckland is brought forward to 9 15 a.m., due in Auckland at 12 55 a.m. The other alterations are of a minor character.
