OUR COUNTRY'S NEEDRECRUITS.

Tbe pride which the people of this Provincial district feel in the excellent recird the Province has in the Shatter of recruiting is an entirely justifiible pride, and the local Terntosial area occupies an honorable place in the list ot Territorial area?, both in respect of tha numbers of men sent forward ard in the number of men who, in guing thiir live , have made the last and greatest sacrifice man can make for hi i country. Great as has been th? number of men sent, the imperative demand for more msn continue?, and will continue until we have complete!; vindicated the cause ol civilisalim over barbarism. There is a deficiency of 84 infantrymen and 14 mounted m?n in tha reinforcements going into training on tlie 14th irst. We wish the position to be ferfectly clear. There is only the shoit period of I si than 14 days m wt.ich to make up tin deficiency mentioned. The excellent record we have had in the past should not blinl us to th: pres:nt positior. Whit we have done is little compared with what is required cf us and with what we can do. Although many men have enlisted from tti3 district, it is perfectly easy for any reEiient to call to mind scores of eligible men who seem to have no disposition to hear their country's call. A man apparently eligible may hive goad reasons for cot enlisting which co not concern the public. .Nevertheless, it is impossible that all the apparently eligible men in this district can have legitimate reasons for staying at homp. It is possible to think of a considerable number of large families of eligible sons within a few milts of thi3 town, none of which families have contributed a singh numb:r to our military force. It is hoped that the present appeal will not be made in vain, that such nnn will realise their obligations to thair country, and that by tbe end of the current week it will no longer be possible t) point to large families of men in our district wbicb have not contributed a soMi-r to defend his country in its hour of nee J.
