PATUMAHOE.
Mr Schmitt, Provincial Secretary of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, delivcrid an addicss of considerable interest to farmers to a fnirly well attended meeting held in tbe Patumahoe Public Hall on Saturday, September 18th. The president, Mr W. Fit lay, wa« in the chair. Amongst various subjects dealt with by Mr Schmitt was the growth of the Indenting Association. He said that in spite of the war, which was very detrimental to a business of the kind, the Association showed a better turnover tor the last month than for any previous month. Mr Schmitt also referred to the formation of an Artificial Manure Company, and asked the farmers to take up at least sixty per cent of the ■hares to as to huve a controlling interest. Messrs Crooks and Deaks, the promoters, were, hs said, to receive 20,000 £1 shares fully paid up lor their work in connection with Acting the company, and out of that amount he (Mr Scbmitt) was to teceive 1000 paid up £1 shares for his assistance.—On the motion of of Mr Finlay, seconded by Mr Curl', a heavty vote of tbanks was accorded Mr Schmitt for his address.- Very few farmers, however, took up shares in the proposed Company, ns it was thought Hint the 20,000 £1 slinres ton hip a number for the promoters to receive. It was at the same time agreed that something of 11, a sort should be started to lessen the cost of manure.
