MERCER.
- On Saturday last the Mercer Tennis Club opened its season on the asphßlt court* on the school ground. There was an exceptionally large attendant, about B'J enthusiasts being prerent and some keen games rrsolted. Afternoon tea was provided by tbe ladies and was much appreciated. Metalling work is now being undertaken by the Town Board, and the main street presents a much improved appearance in consequence. The All-Briti«h Steamahip Co. shortly intends to add a new launch to its fleet, am it is probable that the vessel will auive in time for tbe summer tripping. It will be 38 feet overall, with an 8 feet b?am, and will contain a cabin and several berths Tbe boat will draw about two feet of water. The company is experiencing a parti cularly busy time on the river aince the creameries commenced for the season, while the opening up of much country recently has meant a big demand frr manures. As compared with about 65 boxes per day for the corresponding period of last year, the Waikato Co operative Dairy Co. is now putting out about 80 boxes ot butter daily. The supply has been augmented by some 70 new suppliers. A new 800 gallon cream vat has been installed and another will follow within the next three weeks. m
