DEATH OF SERGEANT R. D, WILSON.

that Sergt. Kobert Douglas Wilson died from wounds on August 9th. l'he deceased was born at Clcvetjon in 1888, educated at Wairoa South Public School, and earned on the occupation of farmer with his father, Mr J. E. Wilson. Joining the Franklin Mounted Infantry as bugler at the age of 12 years on the furmatlon of that corps, he rose to be sergeant-major, and gained his long service badge at 24. He represented Clevedon Fogtba 11 Club in the FraiJkiin Union in 1911,
winning his cap. He also represented Clevedou in the Manukau Union in 1912-13-14, and also represented the Urion for the same three years in inter-Union matches. Havirg taken up a bush farm in the Otau district, 12 miles from Clevedon, ha resigned from the Mounted Infantry, but bad rot handed in his uniform when war broke ut. Coming out of the bush one Saturday evening, ho hunted up a horse on Sunday, donned his accoutrement, and rode into camp at hpEom en Monday morring, where he was appointed sergeant. Of powerful phytique, he captained a team in Egypt, ai d won a gold medal at the military tournament at Cairo against 25 other teams picked from the Australasian Mounted Forces at wrestling on horseback. Volunteering in Egypt as an infantryman with the rest of his comrades of the Main Expeditionary Force, he went to Gallipoli in May, and was wounded on t'ie Bth August.
